Morena Ara Pakeke parents and caregivers
We look forward to meeting with you next week to discuss your child’s learning during parent/teacher interviews. We encourage all parents who haven’t met with their child’s teacher this term to make a booking. This is a great opportunity to talk about your child’s up and coming Student Led Conference on the 25th and 26th October 2016. A reminder that 2 conferences will be held at the same time in each classroom. Students are very excited to be sharing their science, literacy and maths learning with you.
Bookings for Student Led Conferences are available online at https://parentinterviews.co.nz/ from Monday October 10th using the booking code MUXNK.
Don’t hesitate to contact your child's classroom teacher or Jocelyn Hair (Ara Pakeke Learning Leader) to discuss any concerns or ask any questions.

Disco Time!
Last Friday was the Ara Pakeke Disco. It was great to see so many members of our class there. The music was great, the outfits were flash and the dance moves were out of this world. Sorry I only managed to get one photo before my battery ran out but I can assure you that a good time was had by all.
Collaborative Lunchtime
During the wet lunchtimes a couple of weeks ago this group of friends were bored and looking for something to do. One of them was flicking the pencils around and when asked to gather them up came up with this rather creative way of doing it. Once his friends saw what he was doing they all wanted a piece of the action and they all worked together to create this pencil structure. It was very stable and it was great to hear the boys explaining their mathematical thinking behind the design.
Great collaboration boys!

WOW Kostya
We have lots of creative children in Room 7 and they always have fantastic ideas and creations to share. Kostya created his own bow and arrow at home. He thought carefully about his design and the materials that would be suitable to make the bow and arrow out of. He tried his bow and arrow out and made the necessary changes until he was happy with the end result.
We were most impressed with how well the bow and arrow worked and we were amazed what could be created with items that many of us have at home and in the backyard. Great work Kostya!

Well Done Kain
Kain is a fantastic swimmer and achieved some good results at a recent swimming competition. It was great that he bought his medal in to share with us. Awesome work Kain, you have given us all something to strive for when swimming starts again next term.
Coke and Mentos experiment
Ella and Kylie had both done the coke and mentos experiment before and wanted to share it with the class. First they opened the bottle of coke and then they dropped a couple of mentos into the bottle. First the coke started to bubble and then it began to fizz up and out of the bottle. We had some great ideas around why this happened and what we thought it was in the mentos that caused the coke to bubble up and out of the bottle.
Thank you for sharing this experiment with us Ella and Kylie.

Student Led Conferences
2.9.16
Good afternoon parent/caregivers of Ara Pakeke students
Term 3 is quickly coming to an end. Please remember to book in a time to see your child’s classroom teacher as this is the last formal interview time for 2016.
Ara Pakeke students are getting very excited about the Student Led Conferences on the 25th and 26th October 2016. They are working hard at the moment to prepare for them around our science topic.
Here is some feedback from last year’s parents who attended their child’s Student Led Conference. As a matter of interest - 90% of our parents came to celebrate learning with their child in 2015. This year we are aiming for 95%. We look forward to seeing you with your child soon!
“The kids are getting confident”
“Good for the kids to learn communication skills and be in charge”
“Excellent. I am really happy about the conference in this age group of kids”
