Pink Shirt Day

On Friday we are having pink shirt day to support Anti Bullying week.  We are NOT asking kids for any money - we are just wearing pink to promote awareness. This is not a mufti day - it is pink or uniform.

On Friday afternoons we have started to have a go at completing some of the BP Technology Challenges.  Last week our challenge was to create a structure that would support an egg if it was dropped from a height.  The only materials we could use were newspaper, string, masking tape and straws.
The groups worked well together and came up with some very creative ideas.  Four out of five structures supported the eggs when they were dropped and the other resulted in a broken egg.

Yummy Stickers

Yummy Fruit Company are running a promotion that encourages schools to collect the stickers off their fruit.  In return we earn free sports gear.  The more stickers that are collected, the more sports gear we earn.  Some stickers are worth double points and lables on bags of apples are worth 10 points.  As we collect the stickers we attach them to the collection sheets.  So far Room 7 have 84 stickers plus some that are worth double points.

If you have any yummy stickers it would be much appreciated if you could please bring them into school so we can add them to our collection.

Thanks

Room 7 Super Heros

We had a great time dressing up as super heros today.  Some of the children had very creative costumes and it was great to see the various super powers that were created.

Inter School Cross Country

On Tuesday Isabella and Logan-John competed in the Inter School Cross Country at Blockhouse Bay Recreational Reserve.  Logan-John came first in the seven year old boys race and Isabella came third in the eight year old girls.

What fantastic work Isabella and Logan-John, we are all super proud of you.

Cross Country

On Tuesday the children of Room 7 participated in the school cross country.  It was a long course and the children had to run 2 laps.
It was a great experience for all and everybody should be proud of their efforts.
Here are some photos of the children in action.

TOPIC:

Dear Parents/Caregivers,
As part of our Safety First training in Topic, St. Johns will be visiting Arahoe school and teaching the students emergency first aid.  It will involve CPR, bandaging, injury prevention etc.

In week 4, a trained Community Educator will plan and deliver this programme to our class, and other Ara Pakeke classes, at school. The experienced educators have excellent classroom skills and child friendly teaching resources – they know how to make the experience fun and interactive for every child.

Payment is by donation and much appreciated. They have suggested a sum of $2.00 per student but ask that no student should miss out due to “non-payment”.   All donations will be greatly appreciated and go towards paying it forward and teaching other students just like our own.

The programme values that children of all ages have the ability to make a difference in an emergency situation.

To the parents/caregivers of Ara Pakeke students in Rooms 7, 8 and 9

Welcome back after the holiday break.

This term the teachers in Rooms 7, 8 and 9 are collaborating to teach the skill of reading.  This involves grouping children into three classes based on their learning needs and will begin on Wednesday of Week 1.   Monday and Tuesday will be used to meet with students to prepare them for the transition to another classroom during reading time.  Students will bring home reading material from Wednesday onwards.  Please remind your child to bring their book bag and notebook to school each day.

Collaborative teaching aligns with the Ministry of Education who support an innovative learning environment that evolves and adapts in order to remain future focused.  If you wish to find out more about this inititiave please go to http://elearning.tki.org.nz/Teaching/Innovative-learning-environments
