Room 7's assembly
Today Room 7 hosted our first syndicate assembly. Some of us suffered a bit of stage fright when singing but we all tried our best and had a great time. Well done to our awesome presenters and the brave children who volunteered to share their writing.
Special Visit
Yesterday we had a visit from a Marine Biologist. He came and spoke to is about how our actions impact the marine environment. We loved hearing all the information he shared with us and it was great to see how passionate he was about marine life.
Yaaaaaayyyyyy Swimming Time
It was great to get in the pool this week. We have some fantastic swimmers in Room 7. At the moment we are having a go at some of the events that will take place in our up coming swimming sports.
Library Time
One of our favourite things to do is visit the library. We enjoy learning about how to use the library and choosing our books to take home for the week.
Working Together
Over the last couple of weeks we have spent a lot of time learning how to work well with others. This is something that we are becoming very successful at and we are always amazed at how much we learn from each other.

Assembly Tomorrow
Tomorrow Room 7 will be hosting the Ara Pakeke assembly. We will be sharing a song with the syndicate as well as a couple of pieces of writing from the class. If the chidren wish, they can wear mufti when singing, however, they will need to wear uniform to school and get changed at lunchtime. Please feel free to come and watch if you would like, the assembly will start at 12.50 in the school hall.
No Reading today
There will be no reading books going home this afternoon as we had a visit from a Marine Biologist during out reading time.

Introducing our student teacher Miss Bockus
I was born on July 28, 1994 in a far off land known as Canada. I lived there for thirteen years and learned quite a bit of French before we moved to Kaitia in 2008. It was there that I went to a public school in Taipa for three years before transferring to Springbank School out of Kerikeri. Since attending University I have gathered a slight knowledge of Te Reo Maori.
Recently I have travelled to Rarotonga where I got to witness firsthand how families manage to survive on very little income and with very little study options and it has made me appreciate just how lucky we all are to have things that these families don't. The ability of choice, and to (in most cases) support our family's life style.
I enjoy reading, writing, and playing sports such as Softball, touch, and ultimate Frisbee.
Welcome back, 2016 is going to be a fun, action packed year with lots of real life learning. Please find the class news letter below. A paper copy will also be going home this afternoon.
Dear
Parents & Caregivers,
I would
just like start by saying a big thank you to all for ensuring your child has
the correct stationary, this is a fantastic way to begin the year
We have
made a very positive start to the year in Room 7. It is wonderful to see the children starting
the day with a smile and their enthusiasm for learning is very encouraging.
This is
one of the only paper notices you will receive this year. Please ensure you have the Arahoe app
downloaded (instructions are on the Arahoe website) and that you check the
class blog regularly for any notices.
Library
Room 7
visits the school library on Fridays.
Your child can issue books during this time, however, I prefer to use
these sessions to teach library and information skills. Therefore, I like to promote library
lunchtimes as a time when your child can return and issue books. It would be great if you support me by
encouraging your child to do the same.
Swimming
This
year swimming is being run differently to previous years. Instead of swimming each week, Ara Pakeke
will be swimming during odd numbered weeks and Ara Tuakana will be swimming
during even numbered weeks. Room 7’s
swimming days are Monday &Tuesday.
We will start swimming in Week 3.
Hats
It is
important that your child brings a named brimmed hat to school everyday. Children that do not bring a hat are required
to play in the shade at break times.
Teacher Classroom Release
Throughout
the term every teacher has CRT (Classroom Release Time). This means that I will be out of the room at
various times. During this time your
child will be taking part in extra Music lessons with Mrs Sadgrove.
Class Blog
We have
started our class blog and will be updating it often. Please make sure you check it out when you
can. I will also use it as another
medium to remind everybody of upcoming dates and other important
information. The blogs address is http://jhoflearning.blogspot.co.nz/
.
Homework
Your
child will receive readers to read at home Monday-Thursday and a poem to read
over the weekend as well as weekly spelling words and basic facts to learn over
the week.
There
will also be weekly or fortnightly activities to be completed in homework
books. These activities are not compulsory;
however, I do encourage children to complete some of them throughout the
duration of the year.
Email
Email
is a great way of communicating with each other. Should you wish to contact me at any stage my
email address is julieh@arahoe.school.nz. Attached to this notice is a slip for you to
return with your email details so they can be stored on file. If you could please get these back to me as
soon as possible it would be much appreciated.
Making a positive start and end to the day
Following
morning and afternoon routines can be an important way of starting and
finishing school on the right foot. Your
child is expected to do the following when they enter Room 7:
Ë Say “Good morning Mrs Hoffmann”
Ë Hang up their school bag.
Ë Return any old reading books.
Ë On fine days go outside to play
otherwise do a quite inside activity.
Please
note that the classroom doors are not opened before 8.30am, if you require
before or after school care please contact SKIDS in the school hall.
At the
end of the day it would be appreciated if you could please wait for your child
to be released outside the class to ensure that our end of day routines run
smoothly.
Your
support is much appreciated.
Regards
